Works for orchestra and small ensembles
I wrote several smaller works for woodwind ensemble, cello & piano, solo horn and brass ensemble. In addition, I wrote some works for small orchestra, and two works for large orchestra. Please contact me if you are interested in performing any of these works would like to receive the scores (and parts).
01
The Breadbasket
An orchestral work with solo violin passages, written for my Ukrainian friend and violinist Allunia Verkh Koewe. It is dedicated to the people of Ukraine
and their struggle to remain a free and independent democratic country.
02
Blue Dave
I wanted to write a short ‘upbeat’ orchestral work in odd meter that still sounds natural and easy on the ear. Listening to odd meter pieces, I found a half-forgotten work by the Dave Brubeck Quartet, Blue Rondo à la Turk (1959), a jazzy interpretation of Mozarts’ Rondo Alla Turca (very hip at the time…). Since Dave borrowed from Wolfgang, I borrowed his meters (11/8 and 9/8). Hence the name Blue Dave.
Drummer Jeroen Lutgerink plays fusion-style drums.
03
Aeolus (for wind sextet)
I wrote this work to explore the musical and sonic possibilities of a 6-piece wind ensemble. In this sextet we have flute, alto flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet and bassoon.
04
1001 Nights (for solo horn and three analog synthesizers)
I wrote this work to explore the many possibilities and beautiful sound of a solo French horn. The arpeggiated synthesizers provide a hypnotizing minimalist background. Solo horn played by Tomás Figueiredo.
